Abstract

Hinduism in Kashmir has remained a dominant faith for centuries. Right from the legend of Satisar drudging, Kashmir has remained the abode of various deities of Hindu pantheon. As a result of it, temples either in ruins or alive, idols and idol parts have been found across Kashmir. Lagripora near Ashmuqam is such a place where a broken statue has been found without the upper part of the body which mostly contains the chief iconographic features to identify the deity. This paper is an effort to analyse the remaining parts of the idol utilizing specific iconography to understand the nature and identity of the broken idol.
